In 1987, Vincent Gaudino started an HVAC company out of his home in Queens. One man, one name on the paperwork: VG Air Flow. Over the decades that one-person operation grew into Vinco Mechanical, a licensed NYC mechanical contractor now working out of Grand Street in Brooklyn with crews across all five boroughs. His son Damian runs it today. Second generation, same trade, same city.
Damian grew up inside the business. Service calls, equipment rooms, the particular ways old New York buildings fail. The work he inherited is rooftop units above restaurant kitchens, VRF systems threaded through condo towers, heat pumps in landmarked brownstones. And a lot of it is the same call, over and over: something died that did not have to.
A rooftop unit above a dining room quits on a Friday in August. When the tech opens it up, the story is right there in the compressor: running long for weeks, pulling more amps for the same cooling, with nothing watching. A condo VRF drops a branch in January and the first alarm is a tenant's cold living room. A hotel air handler picks the morning of a wedding, after months of drift no one measured.
None of this is a mystery at the top of the market. Large commercial buildings have had this level of insight for years: building automation systems, fault detection platforms, energy analytics, and the engineers to run them. The physics is the same in a twelve-unit co-op as it is in a Class A tower. What differs is the price of admission. That grade of monitoring takes custom integration, dedicated staff, and a capital budget, so it stops at a certain building size. Below that line, the restaurant with two rooftop units, the multifamily walkup, the owner with equipment across three leases, everyone runs blind between service visits.
That was the gap Damian kept staring at from inside the family business. Not a technology gap, an access gap. The tools existed and his customers could not touch them. So he designed a way around the gate: use AI to skip the building automation layer entirely, learn each unit's healthy behavior on its own, and deliver the insight at a subscription instead of a capital project.
AirPulse is that way in. A palm-sized node attaches at the equipment. No building automation system, no custom integration, no rewiring. For its first 30 days it only learns, building a statistical baseline of that specific unit across weather and load. The baseline belongs to that unit alone, not to a spec sheet: your machine, healthy, doing its normal work in its normal building.
From then on, AirPulse compares every operating hour against what the unit should be doing right now, in this weather, under this load. When runtime creeps or amperage climbs for the same output, the owner gets a plain-English alert with a dollar figure attached, early enough that the fix is a coil cleaning instead of a compressor. You see it from your phone, day one. No engineers, no rollout, no capital project.
That is the whole idea: the intelligence big buildings already had, rebuilt with AI so it works on one unit at a time, at a price the rest of the market can actually pay.
Two provisional patent applications have been filed with the USPTO, covering the fault detection method and the per-unit baseline approach at the core of AirPulse. The applications describe how the system learns a unit's healthy behavior and how it decides that drift has become a fault worth a human's attention. In July 2026, Damian incorporated AirPulse, Inc. as a Delaware C-Corporation. It is not a Vinco product or a Vinco division. AirPulse sells equipment intelligence directly at airpulsehq.com, to any building, in any market, installed by whichever certified AirPulse Pro the customer picks. Vinco Mechanical stays what it has been since 1987: the family contracting business, licensed in NYC (DOB Contractor #022359, DCWP HIC #2135244-DCWP).
The two companies meet at the install. AirPulse hardware needs licensed hands at the equipment, so AirPulse, Inc. certifies independent contractors as AirPulse Pro installers. Vinco is the first certified in New York City, selected for NYC coverage because it holds the local mechanical contracting license and puts crews on New York rooftops every day. Other markets get other Pros. You can hire either company without the other.
